Consulting: e-Learning, environmental scans, social media implementation, strategic planning
Description
Alberta Sustainable Resource Development hired Chinook Multimedia to develop a two-year strategic plan for the creation of online youth (k-grade 12) educational resources for a new website and to create a ‘Fish Quiz’ as an initial exemplar resource.
In developing the strategic plan, we undertook an environmental scan of almost 500 online resources, an online survey, of key staff, interviews with key departmental personnel and environmental organization representatives, the presentation of a workshop session, and extensive research into best practices for engaging youth audiences and incorporating social networking functionality.
The strategic plan included detailed plans and budgets for the creation of a comprehensive suite of learning resources representative of stakeholder interests, content priorities, and potential curriculum linkages. The Flash Fish Quiz shown here is the first youth resource.
Our thanks to the many SRD and environmental organization representatives who shared their expertise and ideas.
Challenges
The confidential strategic plan is based on original research in a number of fields. The final report includes priority-based descriptions of SRD goals and topics for development; an interpretative analysis of the environmental scan data; strategies for youth engagement; a plan for the staged introduction of specific social media tools; analytical and descriptive recommendations regarding learning resource design; tables linking recommended learning resource types and topics to SRD goals; detailed development plans and budgets for each component of the suite of learning resources; and appendices with research data.
