Description
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services required the development of a Flash e-Learning module to be used in training fire fighters to reset fire alarm panels triggered by nuisance alarms. Fire fighters have to deal with different types of alarm panels with different control settings when responding to alarms.
Challenges
Chinook Multimedia developed the project in collaboration with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. The web-based training module, which is delivered in the D2L system, includes 7 different panels. Animations, photos, audio, and realistic illustrations help to situate learners within a realistic setting. They have to complete a multi-step process to successfully reset an alarm. Feedback is based on real-world outcomes, except that a mistake forces the learner to re-start the activity with a different panel. Learners can repeat the activity many times without encountering the same alarm panel because the randomization formula always draws from panels that have not been selected.
