E-Learning & Web-Based Training: e-Learning, design, storyboarding, editing, programming | Graphic Design: animations
Description
Crime Scene Management is the first of several learning objects and training courses we have developed for Edmonton Police Service. EPS provided a draft storyboard and concept for the learning object. Chinook Multimedia provided design, illustration, and programming work, as well as assisting with storyboard development, authoring, and editing.
For the primary interactive scenario, Chinook Multimedia created an original pan and zoom panorama illustration of the crime scene. The panorama includes hotspots (potential evidence) that are revealed only on zoom,
The hotspots lead to pop-ups that contain information about the evidence the user has discovered, and/or pose questions for the user to answer about the evidence, and/or provide options for the user to select. Feedback is provided when the user finishes using the learning object. Feedback includes whether the user has found all of the crime scene evidence as well as comments on all of the choices the user has made.
Challenges
The learning object is a straightforward animation with hotspots and feedback. The only technically challenging aspect was the creation of hotspots that can be seen only on zoom. This method was chosen to encourage users to fully explore the crime scene environment. The more challenging aspect of our projects with Edmonton Police Service has been to gain enough understanding of the subject matter to add value to the EPS storyboards. Our thanks to EPS in this regard. We really enjoy these collaborative projects.
