2- Web Sites
Chinook Multimedia has many years of experience building media-rich Web sites for corporate, education, and heritage (museums, libraries, etc.) clients. Our expertise encompasses a variety of client/server technologies, operating systems, and development languages. We specialize in MySQL databases, PHP scripting, and Flash or HTML front ends. We have created many bilingual sites.
Relevance: The site is an example of branded Web site development for a business using a TV screen/slideshow format to highlight products.
Technical Notes: MySQL database backend, PHP scripting, HTML front end with Flash elements, e-commerce
Relevance: This site is an example of affordable brochure-ware for a business to match the client's pre-existing client branding. The site includes French and English-language HTML editors to reduce client maintenance costs.
Technical Notes: HTML, HTML editors
Relevance:This site is an example of four front end versions (HTML and Flash, English and French-language sites) using a single database backend. The built-in educational activities use our own forum and cooleCreate multimedia authoring applications. The link will take you to the English-language Flash site.
Technical Notes: MySQL database backend, PHP scripting, with equivalent HTML and Flash front ends
3- CD-ROMs and Custom Document Solutions
Chinook Multimedia has created numerous CD-ROMS, including education resources and training manuals. Our experience includes
- cross-platform development
- use of XML
- equivalent versions in different languages (e.g. French and English)
- inclusion of multimedia (2 and 3d illustrations, photos, audio, video, animations, etc.)
- save functionality for user-entered information
- alternative navigation using tab keys and arrow keys
- search functionality
- print functionality
- full range of accessibility option
Please note: These projects include confidential client information. We are only permitted to include screen shots.
Relevance: These manuals use our cooleView application. The table of contents can be customisable, permitting different readings of a document by different types of users. With cooleView, file sizes are a small fraction of what they would be using PDFs. The same solution can be used for year end reports. cooleView can be customized to suit the client. A version that enables text entry fields is available, the solution works for CD-ROM or Web site delivery.

Relevance: This promotional slideshow may take a while to load as it has not been optimized for Web delivery. The show includes audio, autoplay options, etc. Media resource options include images, audio, video, animations, panoramas, etc.
Technical Notes: Flash
4- Custom Media Display Solutions
Chinook Multimedia has designed hundreds of interactive videos, images, maps, graphs, slideshows, animations, timelines, and simulations. Often, these have included customized players. The interactives may use XML or a database backend.
Videos
Relevance: This Web site makes excellent use of video resources. Both high and low resolution videos (to accommodate different bandwidths) can be loaded into our custom player.
Technical Notes: Flash video player
CooleExplore
Relevance: Our cooleExplore application can be used to display detailed diagrams, interactive images, maps, and guides. Hotspots, drop down menus, and toggle options enable access to drill down information. When clicked, the hotspots reveal related textual and pictorial information. The addition of this information allows users to further explore an already detailed image. The hotspots could just as easily link to audio, video, maps, etc.
Technical Notes: Flash, MySQL or XML versions

Interactive Map
Relevance: Digital maps offer new opportunities for users to explore complex data arrays without becoming overwhelmed by the information. Checked boxes in the lower left corner control which information is displayed at any time. Our technology solutions are designed to provide lasting value. This map is now more than seven years old.
Technical Notes: Flash
Interactive Graph
Relevance: Interactive graphs allow users to isolate particular data or show groups of data. In this graph the user can click Total imports or Percentage of Total Imports and then click individual legend items. Our technology solutions are designed to provide lasting value. This graph is now more than seven years old.
Technical Notes: Flash
Timelines
Relevance: Interactive timelines can be used to convey corporate histories, product development schedules, etc. and can help users to understand the relationship (chronology) of events or the stages of processes. Media resource options include images, audio, video, animations, panoramas, etc.
Technical Notes: Flash, MySQL
5- Animations and Simulations
Chinook Multimedia has created many animations and simulations, including the first online, interactive RPG game to use a Shockwave RPG engine, which we built in Director. Our experience encompasses the creation of Flash simulations featuring a constructivist framework simulating real world decision making in many different contexts and with different outcomes; content stored and accessed from XML files or database backend for delivery of the simulation on CD-ROM or over the Internet; small files sizes for quick loading of all elements; integration of original illustrations with photographs and interactive media (animated maps, animated media); save codes; bilingual resources; inclusion of clickable glossary terms; real world variables, information, and data; and scenarios driven by player choices.
Relevance: This complex learning resource provides extensive context sensitive feedback and numerous animations.
Technical Notes: Flash, XML, original illustrations
Relevance: We built this interactive simulation for either online or offline delivery. To accommodate the two different models of delivery, every interaction, media file, and content file is a separate object that works independently of the full resource. Users are free to explore and make choices, and the object emulates real world consequences for those decisions in the form of a power bill.
Technical Notes: Flash, XML, original illustrations
6- Learning Objects
Chinook began to make the development of learning objects a core competency in 2002. Since then, Chinook Multimedia has built learning objects for the education market and the general public. Our experience includes
- cross-platform development
- use of XML for online or CD-ROM delivery
- equivalent versions in different languages (e.g. French and English)
- inclusion of multimedia (2 and 3d illustrations, photos, audio, video, animations, etc.)
- randomization of activity resources to encourage repeat use of learning objects
- dynamic tracking of student responses (e.g. in science experiments)
- save codes so that user can return to object to continue work
- use of XML to permit indexing and separation of different stages of a learning object
- advanced Action Script programming to create dynamic, interactive simulations with real world feedback
- tracking of variables across multiple swfs
- context sensitive 1, 2, 3 feedback
- dynamically loaded draggable items with attached properties (images and data load separately)
- alternative navigation using tab keys and arrow key
- full range of accessibility options
- print functionality
- context-sensitive help
- updateable, clickable glossary terms
Relevance: This learning object enables virtual experimentation in a safe environment. User inputs are retained across multiple stages of the experiment, enabling comparisons at its conclusion.
Technical Notes: Flash, XML, original illustrations
