The first stage in designing an e-Learning product is to fully understand your goals, subject matter, intended audience(s), desired learning outcomes, and assessment requirements. To learn more about how Chinook Multimedia approaches this planning stage, see Consulting/E-Learning Design.
Once a plan is in place, the next step in the design process is to begin laying out what the learning product will look like. We create wireframe drawings of all major pages based on the information contained in the storyboard. The drawings illustrate page layouts and menu systems that reflect your information and communication priorities. The wireframe drawings also provide you with a visual check on our understanding of your project goals before dollars are committed to the graphical user interface (GUI) and programming.
The last stage of the design process is to create a GUI that captures the subject matter, engages the target audience(s), and facilitates usability. For most projects, we create two to three GUI concepts and then fully develop the one the client chooses. Following acceptance of this basic template GUI, we design the GUI for each type of page.

We have been working with national and international subject matter experts (SMEs) and professional authors since 1997.
We have helped to author text for many different types of web-based training and e-Learning products (including courses, animations, simulations, role-playing games), delivery systems (online, CD-ROM, DVD), and target audiences (all grade levels, university, workplaces). We offer structural editing, stylistic editing, copyediting, and proofreading. We respect the integrity of an author's work, while enforcing common rules and styles. We understand how important it is that SMEs authenticate all content.

Alberta e-Learning developer Chinook Multimedia has helped to create e-Learning storyboards on a wide variety of topics for clients across Canada and for audiences that range in age from very young children to adults.
E-Learning storyboarding requires an understanding of subject matter, interaction design, learner engagement strategies, accessibility requirements, and assessment measures. Creating storyboard content may include authoring and editing text content, selecting or describing appropriate media items, designing learner interactions, and verifying content accuracy. The storyboard must provide accurate instructions for programmers.
As a result, e-Learning storyboarding may require the services of project managers, subject matter experts, instructional designers, graphic designers, authors, editors, and copyeditors all working together in a collaborative effort. Some clients have some of these qualified resources available in-house, while others ask us to provide some or all personnel. Although experienced in all of these areas, we always use external, independent subject matter experts. Our role therefore varies with the client and project and can range from creating the entire e-learning storyboard or helping to envision user interactivity to just providing critical analysis or editorial assistance.
